There will be "blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood," quoted Peter, a disciple of Jesus. [i] In 2014, based partly on the above quote of an Old Testament Bible scripture, pastor John Hagee boldly, but incorrectly, proclaimed that an Apr. 15, 2014 Blood Moon lunar eclipse marked the date of a significant event that would occur. May's upcoming astronomical events include Eta Aquarid Meteor Shower, Blood Moon, and Total Lunar Eclipse.
Another celestial supercharged month for my fellow stargazers to enjoy!. Kickstarting this astronomical fun-filled month of May are the Eta Aquariid meteor showers. They will be occuring before dawn on May 4th, 5th, and 6th. This gives those who missed out (myself included) on last month's Lyrid showers now have another chance to see the sparkly show. The meteors come from their famous parent Hailey's comet. The name Eta Aquariid comes from the star which is aligned with the constellation Aquarius The Water Bearer. The peak of these showers will be on May 5th from 3 am until dawn and during that time there can be up to 30 visible meteors an hour!
