This afternoon, the Tecumseh Police Department in Lenawee County, Michigan issued a press release identifying the body found in a wooded area in the 400 block of S. Maumee Street on May 2, 2023, at 8:47 AM. The Lenawee County Medical Examiner’s office used dental records to positively identify the body as Melissa Gilbert, who was 51-years-old.

I want to address two related issues: bank failures and a proposed bill making SNAP benefits more difficult to get. How are they related? The person who represents Lenawee County and the rest of the 5th district, Tim Walberg, is involved with both. Let’s start with bank failures.

Dee Ann Warner, 52, mother of five and grandmother of six, was reported missing April 25, 2021, from her rural Tecumseh, Michigan home. Her family does not believe she would leave without a word, especially without her nine-year-old daughter.

It’s hard to be a parent. It’s harder when your son is a suspect in the disappearance of his wife. John Warner is the father-in-law of Dee Ann Warner who has been missing from her Tecumseh, Michigan home since April 25, 2021. John Warner’s son, Dale Warner, is Dee’s husband, and has been under intense scrutiny from media and the community.

Almost a year later, in March 2022, Dee’s family was losing faith in the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office. That’s when they asked Billy Little, Jr. for help, after seeing the nationally-recognized investigative attorney on the TV show, 48 Hours. Little agreed to help the family and work pro bono.

When Billy Little, Jr., nationally recognized investigative attorney, was asked by the family of Dee Ann Warner, missing Tecumseh, Michigan woman, to help them get answers, he agreed to work the case for free. That was in March 2022 — almost a year after Dee vanished from her rural home.

It has been a year and a half since Dee Ann Warner vanished from her rural home in Tecumseh, Michigan. On April 24, 2021, Dee planned to tell her husband, Dale, she wanted a divorce. She had four adult children from a previous marriage and a nine-year-old daughter with Dale. A friend picked up Dale and Dee’s daughter for an overnight stay to shield the little girl from what was bound to be an emotional scene.

Yesterday, as concerned citizens rallied on the lawn of the Old Courthouse in Adrian, Michigan to get justice for Dee Ann Warner, there was someone conspicuously missing. Dale Warner, husband of the 52-year-old Tecumseh, Michigan resident who was a mother and grandmother, was absent. It was no surprise. He hasn’t been to either of the vigils hosted by her family, nor has he looked for her. Instead, he insists she took off to Mexico or Jamaica.
