I experienced Funky Town in the 90s. It wasn’t as overcrowded then. It was a new venue gaining popularity. The fictitious name of Funky Town in Kansas City was originally formed March 1998.

Children's Mercy Hospital's story begins with two sisters. Katharine Berry and her sister, Alice, arrived in Kansas City from Wisconsin in 1893. They took turns putting each other through school. The first sister to obtain her medical degree was Katharine while Alice worked as a schoolteacher. Alice later obtained her dental degree. Remember their professions were male-dominated early on. Also, their gender prevented them from being a part of groups associated with medical professionals.

Sometimes you come across a church in your drives that looks very old. The Antioch Christian Church (now called Antioch Community Church) located at 4805 NE Antioch Road in Kansas City, Missouri is historic. It was built in 1859 and is north of the Missouri River.

The Ward Parkway Shopping Center has also been referred to as the Ward Parkway Center or the Ward Parkway Mall. It’s more commonly known as Ward Parkway Center now. It’s located where the borders of Kansas and Missouri meet. The property extends from 85th Terrace to the north, to 89th Street to the south, State Line Road to the west, and Ward Parkway to the east.

In September 1976, the Metro North Mall located at 400 NW Barry Road, in Kansas City, Missouri opened. It was located north of the Missouri River. At the time, it was the second largest mall, with the Oak Park Mall in Overland Park, Kansas being larger. This mall had been a part of Kansas City's Northland for over three decades.

Another shopping center in northern Kansas City, Missouri (near the border of Gladstone) has been gone for some time. The Antioch Center Mall opened in 1956 with about 500,000 square feet. It was the first mall to open north of the Missouri River. By 2005, it was close to empty. Most of it was demolished in early 2012. Two stores remained, Burlington Coat Factory and Sears. I do remember going to this mall decades ago.

People who love to skate in Kansas City look forward to the opening of the Crown Center Ice Terrace. It's open all winter long! In fact, it stretches beyond winter. The official open and close dates are November 4, 2022, through March 12, 2023. The Ice Terrace does close when there's inclement weather. The Ice Terrace team makes sure everything is ready a month in advance.

They consist of three stories including the ground floor. The architectural design is Queen Anne and they were built in 1887-1888. The main facade of a single unit is located at 3401 Main Street which is on the corner of 34th and Main. The other units line up in a row on East 34th Street.
