Proposed New Jersey bill would require landowners to notify neighbors when they hunt on their own land
A newly introduced bill in New Jersey requires hunters to provide 24-hour written notice to all property owners and occupants of properties that share a boundary with where the individual is planning on hunting. Missing a notification will result in a $300 fine for a first offense and a $1,500 fine and loss of their hunting license on any subsequent offense.

Conservation groups oppose opening of new bear sanctuaries to hunting after fifty years in North Carolina
In February, the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission voted to allow to limited permit-only hunting opportunities in three bear sanctuaries, covering an area of 92,500 acres of mountainous forest. Bear hunting has been banned in North Carolina’s Panther town-Bonas Defeat, Standing Indian and Pisgah Bear sanctuaries since 1971.The sanctuaries are set to open to hunters later in 2022.
Raccoons, opossums could face year-round hunting season in Georgia to protect turkey eggs
Georgia legislature has passed legislation that would permit the year-round hunting and trapping of raccoons and opossums in order to save a declining wild turkey population. The bill passed the Georgia State House Chamber in February by a 141-17 vote, and it passed the State Senate on March 17 by a 44-10 vote. It is now waiting to be signed into law by Gov. Brian Kemp.

Texas counties are offering bounties for feral hogs as their population explodes
Feral hogs are not native to the United States. They were introduced to the United States in the 1500s by settlers as a source of food. Their populations have expanded from about 17 states to at least 39 over the last three decades with as many as 9 million feral hogs across the country.
Proposed eastern sandhill cranes hunt stirs controversy in Wisconsin
Eastern sandhill cranes, once a common sight in Wisconsin were almost hunted to extinction with only 25 breeding pairs left in the 1930s. Decades of conservation efforts and curtailed hunting helped the population rebound to nearly 95,000 as of 2020.
Ohio proposes to curtail 2022 fall turkey hunting season after a decline in the wild turkey population
Ohio Department of Natural Resources proposed a reduction to the 2022 fall wild turkey hunting season by three weeks. As per the proposal, Ohio’s fall wild turkey season will begin Saturday, October 15, and end Sunday, November 13, a reduction of 21 days compared to the 2021 fall season.
