Two Texas Nurses Sentenced To Prison After Defrauding Medicare Of Nearly 1.5 Million Dollars
Attorney General Paxton’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit secured a prison sentence for two Houston nurses who were paying kickbacks to marketers, patients, and a physician. Joseph Nwankwo, aged 59, residing in Houston, and Stacey Ajaja, aged 51, residing in Richmond, were found guilty of a conspiracy to defraud the United States and participating in the unlawful receipt and payment of healthcare kickbacks. As per the court's ruling, Nwankwo will serve a 36-month prison sentence, and Ajaja will serve a 14-month term. Following their release from prison, both individuals will have to go through three years of supervised release. Nwankwo has also been ordered to pay $1,218,615 to Medicare as restitution, while Ajaja must pay $238,164.
