We wrap up our 13th EBE by hiking out on Thanksgiving day. We share a few things that we are thankful for on the way out of the Hoosier National Forest.

We aren't superstitious but many are and some think 13 is a bad number. Rugged Mountain Mister and I put that thought aside and head out to the Charles C Deam Wilderness for an overnight backpacking trip. We try and go "Ultralight" while still staying warm. Opie and I attended the 2022 Hoosier Halloween Hang. We busted with friends around the campfire. We both had a great time!

Hiked a couple of miles down the forest road with nothing but the sounds of the woods.

We backpacked to an old homestead in the Charles C. Deam Wilderness, which is part of the Hoosier National Forest near Bloomington, Indiana.

Decided to do a quick overnighter at another abandoned pond out at the Charles C. Deam Wilderness. This one was not very far out, probably about 0.8 miles from the Hickory Firetwower Parking lot. I had not used my Zpacks Duplex tent in a while and so wanted to take it with me. I also had some new products I was testing out such as a Stansport 8-inch oil lantern, UCO tealight lantern, and a Silky Big Boy 2000 saw. All worked perfectly and really added to the trip. Made my usual meal of a ribeye steak cooked over the fire and just really enjoyed myself. I love to do a solo camping every once in a while. I also enjoy making videos where I let the pictures tell the story rather than narrate them. I hope you all enjoy this one.

This off the beaten path, secluded site is located in the far southern portion of the Hoosier National Forest.

We hiked the 2.4 mile loop trail around Saddle Lake in the Hoosier National Forest.

Opie and I took a short overnighter at one of our favorite spots. Indian-Celina Lakes Recreation Area in the Hoosier National Forest in beautiful southern Indiana. We also had a great meal.

Several hiker/backpackers met up at the Charles C Deam Wilderness for a weekend of fun.

An overnight backpacking trip in the Hoosier National Forest. Our route started and ended at the Blackwell Horse Camp. We walked the cope hollow trail until we found a suitable place to camp and returned the next day by following the trail that skirts alongside Tower Ridge Road.

This video is highlights of an overnight trip to Southern Indiana’s Hoosier National Forest. The Indian-Celina Lakes Recreation Area is one of Indiana‘s few places that can be used by backpackers as an overnight backcountry getaway. There is a small gate fee and a few dollars a night to purchase your backcountry permit, but the cost is low and worth it. This was my experience at the Two Lakes Trail . I hope you enjoy watching it!
