Brasstown Bald | Highest Point in Georgia 4, 784 ft | Travel Guide | (Is it worth the $)
Brasstown Bald is the highest point in Georgia at 4, 784ft / 1458m. Located in Hiawassee, Georgia inside the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, this highest point is truly breathtaking! Once you've parked in the parking lot it's just a short .60 of a mile hike to the very top (or you can take a shuttle that's open seasonally April-??) Once to the top you have very large viewing platform with 360-degree views of the Blue Ridge Mountains (These are the southern part of the Appalachian Mountains) If you come after hours or in the off season when the visitor center is closed, you still need to pay $5 to park. Or its $7 a person during season and that includes the shuttle. OR if you have the America the Beautiful pass, its free to enter.
Oconee Station Historic Site | Station Cove Falls | Sassafras Mountain | Twin Falls - South Carolina
On this day in South Carolina, we saw really neat things! 1st Oconee Station Historic Site: This historic building built in 1792 was originally a small fort, built to help protect the white settlers against Indian attack in South Carolina's western frontier. Then in 1799 no longer needed as a fort was made into a trading post between the Americans and the Native American Indians. 2nd stop was Station Cove Falls. It had an easy 3/4 of a mile hike one way to view these beautiful waterfalls! 3rd Stop after lunch was Sassafras Mountain, highest point in South Carolina at 3, 553 feet. And last stop of the day Twin Falls, which had an easy 1/4 mile hike to view these huge set of 2 waterfalls together!
