Arcadia and Lakeview Headed To Marsh Madness
Arcadia and Lakeview are the two remaining school from Northwest Louisiana from 2A-C. The good news, we will have one representative from Northwest Louisiana in a state championship. The bad news is we will only have one representative in a state championship. With Arcadia and Lakeview advancing to Hammond in a strange twist of fate the two will face each other in the Division IV Nonselect semifinals.

High School Basketball Report - Week 16
It’s the final week of the regular season where coaches and assistant coaches check the speed of the Earth and calculate the angle of shadow that falls off the side of their gym. Along with migration of the wildebeest in the Sahara Desert and compare how close spring is in North Louisiana versus the Upper Peninsula in Michigan. It’s power point grab week. Coaches stay tuned to the power rankings and see if they can improve their playoff positioning or even get into the playoffs.

Five Local Girls Basketball Teams Advance to Quarterfinals
Five local schools remain in the LHSAA girls basketball playoffs as they head into the Quarterfinals. Arcadia defeated local team Logansport to advance. DeAsia Alexander and DeAsia Alexander had strong performances despite Lanetta Hill pocketing 19 for Logansport. Another matchup of local teams saw the Castor Lady Tiger advance to the quarters over Summerfield on Monday night. If the Lakeview Lady Gators continue to dominate the playoffs as they have over West St John and Merryville, a win over LaSalle will push them into a Marsh Madness matchup with Arcadia.

LHSAA Releases Boys Basketball Playoff Bracket
The LHSAA boys basketball playoffs were released on Monday afternoon. In Divisions III through IV, the first-round action might be a little light because eight local Northwest Louisiana teams received first-round byes. Winnfield, Lakeview, Ringgold, Zwolle, Negreet, Calvary, Lincoln Prep, and St. Mary’s all will get a rest for a few days awaiting their second-round opponent.

Locals Show Out At LHSAA State Indoor Track and Field Championship
The LHSAA Indoor Track & Field State Championships were held this weekend at Carl Maddox Fieldhouse on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge. Local teams from Doyline, Quitman, Loyola Prep, Calvary Baptist, Mansfield, Castor, and Green Oaks had competitors qualify for the state meet. To qualify, competitors had to have one of the top 16 from all qualifying meets in the 60-meter dash and hurdles, pole vault, shot put, high jump, and triple jump. The top 12 in the 400 m dash, 800 m dash, 1600 m dash, 3200 m dash, 4 x 200 relay, 4 x 400 relay, and 4 x 800 relay in the six qualifying meets held at LSU in Baton Rouge and McNeese State in Lake Charles.

High School Basketball Report - Week 15
The regular season has ended for the ladies and some great finishes happened for the last week of the season. Gibsland-Coleman has been hampered by injuries all season but still maintained a massively tough schedule. One more task laid before them as they had to face the undefeated Claiborne Christian team for a district title. Needless to say, they ain’t undefeated any longer. The Gibsland-Coleman snuck away with a district title in District 1-C. Choudrant and Simsboro finished tied for the district title and had have one-game playoff for the title. Choudrant prevailed with the district title. Negreet captured a district title for the first time in 19 years.

The LHSAA released the 2024 playoff brackets on Monday afternoon. Northwest Louisiana small schools fared well in the draw. Arcadia Lady Hornets snagged the No. 1 seed in Division IV non-select playoffs and received the only local bye in Division III through V.

With one week left in the girls season and two for the boys, the district races are amping up in excitement. District 1-A and District 1-2A held their girls tournaments last week. Arcadia took home their fifth tournament title of the season and tack on the district moniker also. Calvary Lady Cavaliers took top seed and rolled into the district championship with a win over Loyola on Saturday. Calvin Cougars and Lady Cougars captured the District 2-C title with wins over Saline in Winn Parish.

Soccer Playoffs Kick Off With Success For Calvary and Loyola
The time is called the second season and it has begun and some local teams have found success in the first round. One of the first round matchups had a local flavir among district rivals. Boys and girls teams from Calvary, Loyola, and North Caddo all qualified for the playoffs.
Local Powerlifting Teams Prepping For Regionals
West Monroe Tri-Meet (12/15/2023) The Cedar Creek Powerlifting squads kicked off their powerlifting season with the West Monroe Tri-Meet with West Monroe and Ruston. The Lady Cougars captured the top prize in 6 weight classes and finished second in two. First-place finishers were Allie Claire Johnson (97), Emma Moore (123), Rosemary Sewell (148), Lauren Enterkin (165), Ashlyn Bourn (175), and Kate Harris (198). Runner-ups were Gia Fernandez (198) and Avery Bourn (220). Ashlyn Bourn had the top squat (395 lbs), deadlift (385 lbs), and total weight (950 lbs). Lauren Enterkin had the top bench (235lbs)
