It has emerged that Florida's Republican Representative Matt Gaetz is sponsoring a bill that seeks to prevent government agents from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from being able to get ammunition for their guns. The bill in question is HR 268 - the 'Disarm the IRS Act'. Some might describe it as frivolous but it is apparently intended as a means of preventing government overreach into the lives of private citizens.

"Prepared to win the battle to protect our children and teachers" On August 9, Sheriff Wayne Ivey of Brevard County Sheriff's Office posted a video message to Facebook in which he shared plans to keep kids and teachers safe in school when the next academic year begins. Most notable in the plans were that deputies posted in schools won't just be there as an armed deterrent but rather, they'll be equipped with large rifles and wearing tactical gear.

(Denver, Colo.) Following Aurora’s lead, Denver approved Monday paying for four Special Assistant United States Attorneys to prosecute illegal firearm possession cases. The council agreed Monday to take $154,400 from the general fund to fund the unbudgeted positions through the end of this year, or for four months. The council signed an agreement last month with the U.S. Attorney’s Office to fund the positions for two years. The positions will cost $463,200 for a full year. The salaries will be added to the 2023 and 2024 budgets, according to city documents.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more Americans died as a result of gun injuries in 2020 than in any other year. The states with the largest number of gun-related deaths, including suicides and murders, were Mississippi, Louisiana, Wyoming, Missouri, and Alabama.

Advocates for constitutional rights applaud statements like those made by Florida's Governor Ron DeSantis when he promised to pass constitutional carry of handguns within the state before the end of his term as governor. They believe that citizens should have the right to defend themselves and their property.

Following passage of historic, bipartisan legislation on gun control, the Southern Christian Coalition applauded Congress for finally taking action to save lives and reduce gun violence. Even so, the group also expressed disappointment in Tennessee Senators Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty as two voted against the measure.

The recent massacre in Buffalo, New York has elicited a spate of promises from New York Governor Kathy Hochul. She has recently vowed that she will enact measures to remedy gun violence throughout the state.

Southern Christian Coalition calls for "common sense" gun legislation. At a press conference today, a group of Tennessee pastors affiliated with the Southern Christian Coalition called on Senators Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty to support bipartisan legislation aimed at curbing gun violence.

Senator Mitch McConnell has signaled that he will support the gun law bill before congress if it remains in the current form. The bill was negotiated by Sen. John Cornyn of Texas and Sen. Chis Murphy of Connecticut.
