The Battle of Stalingrad was one of the bloodiest battles in history, and it played a major role in World War II. However, it’s hard to say how many people died during the battle itself or what exactly happened. While historians estimate that 1.7 million people were killed during the fighting itself, they disagree on how many soldiers died over the course of eight months after the battle ended due to freezing conditions and exhaustion from fleeing enemy forces.
