Section of Big Creek Greenway boardwalk to be replaced in Forsyth County
(Forsyth County, GA) About half a mile of boardwalk on the Big Creek Greenway in Forsyth County will be replaced. During the Board of Commissioners work session meeting on Tuesday, August 22, commissioners approved $150,000 to replace a stretch of boardwalk north of the Bethelview Trailhead at 5120 Bethelview Road.

(Forsyth County, GA) Mary Alice Park on Lake Lanier in Forsyth County is officially open for the summer today, Friday, May 26 after undergoing some additions and renovations by the county.
Mary Alice Park in Forsyth County scheduled to open soon
(Forsyth County, GA) Mary Alice Park will soon be open for its first official summer as a Forsyth County park on Friday, May 26. The park recently came under the control of the county after an Intergovernmental Agreement was reached with the City of Cumming (who previously managed the park). The county will take over the operation and management of the park in accordance with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers master lease.
Forsyth County names new Parks & Rec director
(Forsyth County, GA) Forsyth County has named the new director of its Parks & Recreation Department. Kirk Franz worked as the recreation manager for Johns Creek and helped found its first Recreation & Parks Division in 2007. During this time, he managed the city’s eight parks, its first Adult Activity Center and oversaw special events.
Big Creek Greenway trail section reopening after 3 years
(Forsyth County, GA) A previously closed portion of the Big Creek Greenway Phase 2 trail and trailhead will be back open for use on Saturday, April 1. The Big Creek Greenway Phase 2 trail and trailhead at Union Hill (located at 5259 Union Hill Road) has been closed since May 2020 for renovations. These changes included an upgraded decking design on about one mile of an already existing boardwalk that stretches from the Union Hill Trailhead to Fowler Park (mile markers 3.5 through 4.5).
