We've driven past pigeon key tons of times on our way down to key west and this is the first time we actually stopped. Just $15 a person gets you on the ferry to this private island adventure. You really can't beat that!

We took a road trip from Key Largo all the way down to Key West, and even took a boat out to a private island off of Key West called Sunset Key. Here's what we learned, and some of the things I'd tell my friends if they were taking a trip to the Florida Keys for the first time. We got a chance to see how the powerlines over the overseas hwy are maintained by helicopter linemen. They work on live wires and while they have precautions to keep them safe this is not a job for the squeamish!

While restaurants all over the country have reported troubling hiring and keeping staff, few places have felt the pinch as much as the Florida Keys. This is, in part, because scarce housing and volcanic rises in rent have priced many people out of the area.

Did you know you can ride the newly restored Overseas Hwy to historic Pigeon Key? The bridge just reopened after a major 44 million dollar renovation started in 2017 making a multi-use pedestrian/ bike path. It is family-friendly and pet-friendly(but pets are not allowed into Pigeon Key) that is 4.4 mile round trip parallel to the overseas hwy. It is one of the coolest experiences in the Keys. The path is free to use with free parking but admission to Pigeon Key is separate. Have you ever biked the Overseas Highway? Big Pine Key and No Name Key residents share their islands with wildlife that includes key deer, raccoons, wild birds, and other wildlife. As awe-inspiring as these visitors can be when they enter local yards, they can make huge messes if they get into your garbage.

Just in time for mating season, a 230-pound loggerhead turtle is being released from Marathon's Turtle Hospital. According to CBS Miami, the turtle was found entangled in crab trap lines earlier this month.
