For about two decades, James and Barbara Spires and family graciously opened their beautiful farm in Guysie to showcase the curious hybrid creations known as mules. It started as a gathering of about 200 friends and fellow mule enthusiasts in 1994, and was known then as the Country Boy Plow Club. Mules, after all, did most of the plowing before modern tractors took over the work. Over the years, it got so popular that everyone was invited and it was renamed the Mule Roundup. There are similar events in Calvary and Wilkes County.

The Beignet Fest Foundation has announce tht their 7th annual Beignet Fest will take place Saturday, November 16th, from 10 am to 6 pm at New Orleans City Park’s Festival Grounds. The later fall date marks a two-month shift for Beignet Fest, hich is usually held in September. Festival organizers are seeking cooler weather for the event, which has endured record heat the past two years.
