Off the Beaten Path Header(designed by Matthew Woodruff) Another weekend of no plans in Gainesville? You and your family have already been everywhere and done everything, so you think? Tired of crowds and parking issues, and maybe other people’s kids (oops, did I say that, LOL.) To badly paraphrase Shakespeare: ‘there are more things hidden in Alachua County than your philosophy knows about.’
You'll Love Lula Falls, But Don't Even Think About Exploring This Georgia Geological Wonder Without Reservations
Since moving to Georgia and pursuing waterfall hiking as a hobby, we’ve been taunted and tantalized by wonderful pictures from Lula Falls, a Georgia geological gem. Located in the Northwest corner of the state, wedged between Cloudland Canyon’s twin falls to the South and Chattanooga’s natural, commercial and Civil War attractions to the North, Lula Falls remained on our “to-do” list, but never seemed to get checked off.
There's Much More to Love at Lula Falls than Just a Waterfall, Like a Don't-Miss View
Lula Falls is one of Georgia's geologic wonders, where Rock Creek plunges 160-feet down into a deep canyon. But if you visit this land trust site tucked away in the Northwest corner of Georgia and only see the falls, you're missing much of the natural beauty preserved in this 8,000+ acre conservation area. For sure, the falls are spectacular. At approximately the same height as world-famous Niagara Falls, Lula Falls ranks as the second-tallest free-falling falls in Georgia, slightly behind Toccoa Falls. But surrounding the falls, Lula Lake Land Trust's core preserve offers a plethora of hiking trails through lush forest, blooming meadows, and along a stunning ridge-line standing hundreds of feet above the neighboring area. Family Fun at an FC Tulsa Pro Soccer Game
A few weeks ago our boys earned their summer reading coupon books which had free tickets to see the FC Tulsa Soccer game! It was our very first time to attend. We had been wanting to go for years but they don’t have a ton of home games. They play at Oneok Field which is the same place the Drillers play. It was interesting to see how they changed the field up for soccer. The game was full of action and entertainment. We sat in the lawn area and it was full of energy. The lawn area has a playground just a few steps away and snow cone food truck available. The food and drink vendors are open all around the park so you can easily get some yummy ball park food during the game. The kids were all given free noise makers - so that was fun for them to help cheer on the team. After the game we went to the bleachers so we could watch the fireworks and we got to meet and high five many of the players. They stuck around for photos and autographs on their way off the field.

Summer Fun for kids at Adventure Avenue
We recently found out about Adventure Avenue in Tulsa when we went to a birthday party there. Our boys had so much fun there especially my 5 year old. It’s a fun place for kids to imagine and play. It’s like a complete little town for them to pretend. Its clean and well maintained. They offer the space for events or just for day passes.
Elgin Park is a great place for some summer fun in Tulsa
Elgin Park has become a fun place we like to visit before Drillers or FC Tulsa Games. The food is great and they have plenty of seating. You can walk to Oneok Field easily from the restaurant. We normally get pizza and mozzarella sticks but this last visit I tried the meatball sandwich. I really loved it. It was super cheesy and the flavors of the sauce were great. The bread was soft and delicious as well. So far everything we have had here has been delicious. The service is always great and it’s a fun place to hang out.
Even on the Hottest Summer Days, These Tips Will Help You Enjoy Your Visit to Six Flags Over Georgia
In our family, summertime always meant a visit to theme parks. And way back in the days when we only had three television networks, the family would travel to a nearby park where we tween-agers and teenagers were allowed to roam freely, binge ride roller coasters and consume mass quantities of park foods as long as we turned up at the assigned meeting points every few hours.
Family Fun at The Golden Mill
Located in beautiful Golden, Colorado, The Golden Mill is one of our family's favorite spots. Inside the historic building, you will find different food halls - TJ&I gravitate to Sushi Sora, and the kiddos love the chicken tenders from Republic of Chicken. And we all agree Happy Cones for New Zealand Style Ice Cream is a given on each visit. It's also a pour-your-own beer hall with wine and cocktail options. With live music at select times, as well as surrounding bike paths and parks, we can always make a full evening out of each visit. But the real show stopper for us is the rooftop patio with views over Clear Creek, Table Mountain, and even a Golden Landmark, the Coors Brewery.
Enjoy Margaritas and Mexican food this Summer in Broken Arrow at Dos Bandidos.
My family and i recently tried out Dos Bandidos in Broken Arrow. It’s is a fun Tex-Mex restaurant in the Rose District on Main Street in Broken Arrow. We started out with some salsa and queso. The queso was a white queso like you find in many texmex restaurants it was tasty. The salsa was good as well. I had the west coast tacos and my wife had the zucchini tacos. My wife really liked hers, she likes trying the vegetarian options. My boys had a burrito and a quesadilla which they really liked. We enjoyed the food and will be back again someday. It’s a fun place to stop and eat if you are out exploring the Rose District in Broken Arrow.
Summer Fun at the Philbrook Museum
We have visited Philbrook many times over the years. I even remember visiting it when I was a child. But this last visit we explored more of the grounds than we ever had. I had no clue about the cabin, sunflower field, and all the wonderful things out past the beautifully landscaped gardens surrounding the museum. We attended the Frida Khalo birthday event that Philbrook hosted a few weeks back. Be sure to purchase tickets to view the amazing Frida exhibit. Every day Philbrook museum has plenty of opportunities for people of all ages to get creative. Check out their interactive ways to play, learn and have fun. We really want to visit for sprinkler Saturday - from 10-12! There is also a restaurant within the museum. It is called, Kitchen 27. On Friday’s they have Burger Night from 5-9. Or you can visit for brunch or lunch.
