WASHINGTON, DC – The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has decided to transition away from third-party facial recognition services used to authenticate new online accounts. Therefore, selfies will no longer be required to set up an IRS account.
The IRS Wants Your Picture and Your License
Starting in 2022, the IRS is now requiring those who want to set up new accounts online to register their picture with them. This is through a partnership that the US Government now has with a firm called ID.me.
