Over the last couple of seasons we’ve seen more and more college athletes opt out of playing in Bowl games to start their preparation for the NFL. That has caused a conflict between new school and old school fans of the game. However, what everybody is forgetting is, the game football is now a business. Institutions like the NFL, NCAA, and broadcast networks like ESPN have made the product of football very profitable. The NFL and the NCAA have made billions of dollars of the game, and ESPN, NBC, and CBS have made millions of broadcasting the games. So they shouldn’t be surprised that players have now gone into business for themselves. Professional and amateur athletes are no longer allowing themselves to be treated like assets for rich corporations. Players are now protecting their personal brand, and doing what they can to protect their financial future.
