Carson Briere, who is the son of the Philadelphia Flyers' interim general manager Danny Briere, has been accused of being involved in an incident where he pushed a woman's wheelchair down a bar's staircase in Erie.

Douglas County, Colorado has declared March, “Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.” To promote programs and services for the developmentally disabled, the county established a Developmental Disabilities Mil Levy Grant program, (DDML) in 2001. The one mil property tax is dedicated to providing 93% of the DDML fund for the County’s program, Developmental Pathways, 5.5% for a competitive grant program and the remaining 1.5% goes to cover treasurer’s fees.

A contentious incident occurred on a bus ride when a woman, identified as a 32-year-old female, asked a person using a wheelchair, identified as a 40-year-old male, to move their wheelchair from a designated spot to accommodate her 5-year-old daughter.

The AFC program (Adult Foster Care Program) is a State funded MassHealth program. The program pays caregivers that are taking care of a friend or family member, living in the same household that is physically or mentally disabled. Services are provided at no cost to the caregiver or MassHealth member. To qualify for the program, the person being cared for must have MassHealth Standard or MassHealth CommonHealth. They must be 16 years of age or older and be unable to live alone due to a medical, physical, cognitive, or mental health condition.

I moved to a small town in the late 90s and would soon learn that the sleepy little town I had moved to wasn’t as sleepy as it appeared. While the sidewalks were all rolled up promptly at 5:00 pm, the bowling alley and the local fast food place remained open. This was where the locals hung out. A woman named Brittany who did not give her last name appeared before the Denver City Council recently explaining she has only 18 months to live. She currently spends that time unhoused.

Brian Conwell recently competed in the Tempe Wheelchair Games in Arizona, winning several medals. The multi-event competitor trained for months to prepare for the games. Brian has competed in multiple events across the country after an industrial accident led to the loss of use of his legs during active duty.

The Desert Challenge games brought over 300 competitors from 12 countries to compete in a variety of events such as archery, swimming and track and field. Hosted by Arizona Disabled Sports, this event is open to competitors with developmental or physical disabilities. The event takes place in Mesa, Arizona.
