My review of a good dinner at Panda in Clovis
When it comes to eating Chinese food, I have to be careful of where and what we eat. Patti is allergy-free, but I have a peanut and sesame seed/oil allergy, which makes it hard to find the right restaurant. We've eaten at China Chef in Clovis on Willow, and they have made food for me without peanut or sesame oil, which doesn't leave much flavor in the food, but it makes it easier for me to order from them. Then there is Kowloon Kitchen on Shaw Ave, where they learned that when I order not to use peanut or sesame oil. They do this on a special request; if you have allergies like me, ask, and they will accommodate your order. The same goes for China Chef. Then there is Panda. They claim, at least at the one near us on Fowler and Ashlan, not to use peanut or sesame oil unless documented in their recipe. I can attest to this since I've ordered some dishes that other places use peanut oil for frying, and when I had that dish at Panda, I didn't get sick, so they are telling the truth. Patti is a Panda fan, more so than me. I like the fried rice at Kowloon, but the noodles at Panda are much better. The ride rice at Panda lacks the flavor of the pork fried rice at Kowloon, probably because they don't add pork to their fried rice. Their rice has more veggies than Kowloon's, but it is dried, which I don't like.

New Chinese Restaurant With Korean Twist Now Open
Something magical happens in the kitchen. It brings cultures together in ways nothing else can. You will find fusions splicing various methods of cooking together. Sometimes this comes out of necessity, as immigrants bring their recipes and tailor them to their new homes’ resources and available ingredients. Other times it is done as a way of marrying two flavor profiles into something new and unique. On the political spectrum, China and South Korea don’t necessarily get along all that well. But in the culinary sense, the various flavors come together to make something exciting. And that is exactly what is happening at a recently opened restaurant in metro Phoenix.

Local Restaurant Has 23 Health Violations, Fails Inspection
Food health and safety inspections are a never-ending cycle. For most establishments, a visit from the county health inspections here in Tucson takes place once a year. If visitors become more frequent there’s a sign of underlying issues within the establishment. More often than not, restaurants are given at least one chance to make the necessary corrections to pass their annual inspection. However, even despite this offering (something that not all counties in Arizona provide), Tucson area restaurants still manage to receive failing grades. This exact fate fell onto two local establishments over the past week.
Local Restaurant Is Hit With D-Grade Health Inspection
Food health inspectors are continually busy in greater Phoenix. With the sheer number of locations throughout the Valley, hundreds of new food health and safety reports are filed on a weekly basis. The vast majority of restaurants follow the rules and receive A ratings (meaning zero infractions). However, not every food-handling establishment fairs so well, and one local restaurant recently received the lowest available grade following its inspection. Anything lower and the restaurant would have been forced to shut down.
2 Restaurants Fail Health Inspections, One Doesn't Have Functioning Fridge
Food businesses around greater Tucson have been put on watch. Health inspections are not playing around. While there might have been some leniency granted, in some shape or form, during the pandemic, restaurants, food carts, trucks, and other registered businesses are no longer receiving the benefit of the doubt. There have been more restaurants hit with violations and have subsequently failed follow-up inspections this summer than in recent memory. And these inspection failures are not few and far between. Nearly every week the failed health inspection list grows. This week is no different, as several more food establishments have officially failed their annual health inspections here in Tucson.
Local Chinese Restaurant Has Closed
Folks on the north side of Tucson, as well as those who call Oro Valley home, have seen a number of new restaurants pop up over the last few years. Many of the most popular restaurants in Tucson proper have opened satellite locations in Oro Valley, making it easier for residents of the area to enjoy their favorite foods without driving for 45 minutes. This has made running a restaurant right at the Tucson and Oro Valley border a goldmine for many establishments. However, rent hikes and surging property costs can hinder some growth, and it seems this is the cause of one area restaurant deciding to close up shop, without much warning.

1908bc British Chinese restaurant, Hong Kong
Note: We were given a complimentary dining experience at this restaurant. We love sampling Chinese fare all over the world and seeing each country’s take on the traditional cuisine. British Chinese cuisine has always been one of our favourites with fragrant shredded duck and addictive prawn toast, so were very excited to see a restaurant serving the mouthwatering fare in our neighbourhood, Sheung Wan. 1908 British Chinese Cuisine is one of HK’s only restaurants serving elevated British Chinese fare and has been garnering excited diners for the past two years.
