The Arizona Cardinals have released veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins according to an official team announcement issued on Friday. The Cardinals had been expected to part ways with Hopkins since the end of the 2022 season due to his $30.75 million cap hit, which was a team high and also ranked top among NFL wide receivers and was the 7th highest cap hit in the entire league.

Last season was a disaster for the Arizona Cardinals. The team finished 4-13 in 2022. To make matters even worse, Cardinals QB Kyler Murray tore his ACL in Week 14 of last season. Normally, an ACL injury takes about a year to rehab. That means that a backup QB's Colt McCoy or Jeff Driskel could be starting at the beginning of this season. Plus, Arizona named Jonathan Gannon to be the new head coach in February.

The Arizona Cardinals and the Tennessee Titans are reportedly closing in on a trade that would send veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Titans, according to Pro Football Talk.

The league announced all of the NFL compensatory draft picks given out for the 2023 NFL Draft. In total, 37 draft picks were handed out to 16 different teams. Compensatory draft picks are awarded to teams that lost meaningful players via free agency last season. For example, Christian Kirk left the Arizona Cardinals to sign a big contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. As a result, the Cardinals received a late third-round pick for the 2023 NFL Draft.
