Social Media Threat to Alamogordo Public Schools
The Alamogordo public schools released the following statement…. “Alamogordo Public Schools has been made aware of an anonymous shooting threat made on social media by an individual towards Alamogordo High School, Chaparral Middle School & Mountain View Middle School for Thursday, May 11.
NIMBY Win, Property Owner Loses, Alamogordo House May be Demolished
A property at 1209 Ohio Avenue has been abandoned and derelict for 15 years. It had a yard maintained by a prior owner, but was abandoned, damaged and not livable in the present condition. The property sold to an investment group that wanted to have the building zoned R4 consistent with other properties in the district from R3. This modification in zoning would have allowed the developer to preserve the look and feel of the exterior of the house yet make it palatable to invest the several 100 thousand required to make it livable and bring it to code.

Red Flag Warning issued May 09 at 6:21AM MDT until May 10 at 9:00PM MDT by NWS El Paso. The region continues in an extended period of warm and dry conditions, as deep southwest flow delivers breezy afternoons. As such, fuels are continuing to dry. On Wednesday a Pacific low will eject across the Four Corners Region, tightening pressure gradients and inducing surface troughing. This will increase wind speeds across the area on Wednesday. A windy afternoon and evening will elevate fire weather conditions to critical. The probability for new wildfire starts and large growth of any existing fires will be increased. Winds will decrease for the end of the week, but RH`s will remain low. Relief is possible by Saturday as moisture looks to move in from the east to raise relative humditiy, and bring scattered rain showers.
Alamogordo Tiger Girls Track and Field Win District Boys Place 2nd Off to State
Congratulations to the Alamogordo Tiger Girls Track and Field Team and Boys for a successful District 5A competition. The Girls continue to show their dominance this season winning District and are favored heavily to perform well at the state meet. The Alamogordo Tiger Boys also performed well with a 2nd Place District finish and a trip to the State Championships.
Santa Fe Veteran and Four Others Arrested at Holloman Peace Protest
Veterans for Peace and CODEPINK protested in front of Holloman April 19th, 2023 with arrests made. They were protesting drones. According to a press release by the Otero County Sheriff's Office, deputies were diverting traffic to Holloman Air Force Base through the west gate for 20 minutes because of the protestors. Deputies gave a one-minute warning for the approximately 18 protestors to clear the entrance or face arrest. All but five protestors moved from the main gate.
US Veterans Motorcycle Club & Slate Riders: Live Ride Repeat Fundraiser to Combat Suicide 5-6-23
The US Veterans Motorcycle Club and Slate Riders together are hosting their annual LIVE. RIDE. REPEAT Fundraiser and Awareness Campaign to Combat Suicide. This jointly sponsored and hosted event will be held May 6th, 2022, with registration at Liberty Cycles, 649 Hwy 70 W, Alamogordo, New Mexico from 10 am to 12 noon. Breakfast Burritos will be provided hosted by Fatwood BBQ for breakfast for purchase during registration. After the ride Carolina Boi BBQ will provide meals at the VFW at a special rate.
HB232 Block Sponsored Then Voted No Rest of Delegation Voted Yay
Madrid, Burton and Griggs voted to protect victim’s identity and Sensitive infrastructure, John Block sponsored the bill then voted Nay. During the most recent session HB232 expanded the list of records that are exempt from inspection to include additional information about victims of certain crimes—particularly crimes involving stalking, assault, and sexual contact or exploitation—visual and audio depictions of harm, death, or body parts, and other records or depictions that could place a victim or their family members at risk of exploitation or further harm. These new exemptions cover additional records and information that could interfere with the effectiveness of an investigation and provides additional protections to victims without exempting records pertaining to offenses committed by officers, such as death or bodily harm, which can improve transparency regarding officer conduct.
US Border Patrol Update El Paso Sector Apprehensions
El Paso sector representing Otero County and the borderland of New Mexico’s Border Patrol area via the El Paso Sector now leads the nation in migrant encounters, with 265,037 as of 3/31/23. An increase of 134% compared to FY22 over the same time.

New Mexico is the No. 18 state most impacted by dementia. Eight of the 10 most impacted states are in the Southeast and six of the 10 least impacted are in the Northeast. Americans impacted by Dementia know how debilitating it can be physically, emotionally, and financially. Anestimated 6.5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s – the most common disease that causes dementia -- and that number is expected to swell to 13.8 million by 2060.
