A Fleming Island woman is in Clay County Jail for domestic abuse; her second offense this year, deputies say.

Jordan Van Wingerden, 20, was arrested at approximately 12:30 p.m. Sunday after deputies received a call in regards to a domestic dispute against an elderly woman.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the victim who is “very mobility impaired,” needing a walker in order to walk, according to the arrest report. The victim told deputies that she had asked Wingerden to get her something from the kitchen, when Wingerden jumped on the victim and put her hand around her throat.

After Wingerden got off, the victim called 9-1-1. Deputies did not initially locate Wingerden, but later found her located in a crawl space between a mattress and the floor in a room within the residence, they said.

After some conversation, Wingerden crawled out from under the bed and agreed to an interview with deputies. She told deputies she did not understand why she was in handcuffs because she “did not do anything,” the arrest report said.

Wingerden was previously arrested for domestic battery on Jan. 3, 2023, after getting into an argument with a female victim who had told Wingerden she needed to find a different place to live. Wingerden became upset and struck the victim with the back of her hand approximately five times, the arrest report said.

The victims’ names have been removed from both arrest reports to protect the victims’ identity. It is unknown whether or not Wingerden attacked the same woman both times.

Wingerden was transported to Clay County Jail and faces charges of domestic battery (prior conviction) and abuse of a disabled adult. Her bond is set at $10,006.
