A Middleburg man was arrested Thursday and faces murder charges after shooting a male victim in the arm and abdomen, deputies say.
Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 2400 block of Zagato Court at approximately 12:29 a.m. Thursday, June 1, in reference to a person shot. Upon arrival, deputies located the victim in the front yard of the residence, according to the arrest report.
The victim was transported to Orange Park Medical Center for evaluation where he underwent surgery and was intubated, per the arrest report. The victim could not be interviewed due to his condition and, at this time, his prognosis is undetermined, deputies said.
Adam Sidney McWilliams, 36, of Middleburg, was taken into custody at the scene of the crime and was found with a shotgun in his possession, the arrest report stated. While in the marked patrol vehicle, McWilliams became violent and began banging his head into the partition, deputies said.
Per the arrest report, McWilliams developed a laceration on his forehead from banging his head and was transported to Baptist Hospital Clay for treatment where he was medically cleared. While in the hospital, deputies interviewed McWilliams about the incident.
McWilliams' interview has been removed from the arrest report, per Florida public information laws. However it is noted that he kept spontaneously uttering things without being questioned and that he and the victim had been in a physical fight before the shooting.
