Oakleaf High School went on a Code Red lockdown Wednesday afternoon after a student reported seeing another student with a firearm on campus.
The school’s principal, Matthew Boyack, notified parents via SaferWatch that the lockdown was “out of an abundance of caution.” at approximately 1:50 p.m. The full alert can be seen below:
“This is Principal Boyack of Oakleaf High School. I am calling to notify you that our campus is on a code red lockdown out of an abundance of caution as the administration team was made aware that one of our students has allegedly seen another student with a firearm on campus.
Again, we are on a code-red lockdown out of an abundance of caution. I can share that the person accused is detained and the administration and the school resource officer are investigating.
This will potentially affect dismissal as the investigation is ongoing. As of this moment there is no threat to students or staff. I will continue to share updates as more information is made available.
Please know, we take every step in keeping all students and staff safe and we encourage you... if you see something, say something. Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter.”
In a second alert, Boyack said that students are being dismissed as usual, but that buses would be running late. It was also noted that the Clay County District Schools Police Department had students of interest in custody and that a firearm was discovered on the school campus, he said. The number of students in custody has not been released.
No injuries were reported and law enforcement is still investigating the case, Clay County District Schools Police Department said.
