According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, deputies were called for assistance at the Walmart on Blanding Boulevard in Orange Park in reference to a theft on Friday, Oct. 7.

Walmart employees told deputies that two men attempted to use a set of keys that were stolen from the Walmart located on Branan Field Road in Middleburg to unlock the cabinets behind the electronics counter.

One male was described as wearing a black and yellow football jersey, dark shorts and a tan hat. The other male was wearing a black T-shirt, tan pants, black ball cap and was carrying a small dog, deputies said.

The men were unsuccessful due to the locks being different at each Walmart location, however, they kept trying to open the cabinets until the key got stuck and they were able to break open the case, the report said.

During the course of the investigation for the stolen keys, Walmart employees saw the man wearing the black and yellow jersey walking around the store and contacted the Clay County Sheriff's Office. Nothing was reported about the second man.

Arthur John Green Jr., 31, of Jacksonville, was identified as the male in the football jersey, the arrest report said. The total value of the stolen items was $1,082.85 and the items included cell phones, smart watches and a cooler, according to the report.

Green was not arrested on Oct. 7. However, during a follow-up on the case Clay County deputies realized he was in Clay County Jail for an unrelated drug possession charge.

According to the arrest report, on Thursday, Nov. 3, Green was involved in an unspecified incident at the Home Depot on Wells Road in Orange Park.

Deputies made contact with Green approximately an hour later and found approximately 50 rounds of .45 Automatic Colt Pistol ammunition, used needles and syringes, a white powdery substance wrapped in a small piece of plastic and a clear crystal substance in a small plastic tube.

Green stated the crystal substance was methamphetamine and the white powdery substance was fentanyl. Both were for his own use, he said.

A National Crime Information Center search revealed Green is a convicted felon and cannot possess ammunition, the arrest report said.

Deputies placed Green in handcuffs and transported him to Clay County Jail. He now faces charges of grand theft (from the Walmart incident), possession of ammo by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of drug equipment and trespassing, the arrest report said.

His bond is set at $34,015.
