A new protective services program is coming to Clay County to provide both armed and unarmed services to commercial establishments such as apartment complexes, shopping plazas and restaurants.

Northeast Protection Agency announced Monday that it has expanded its operations into Florida, launching its Proteus Protective Services. The company said it will initially focus heavily on clients in Duval and Clay counties.

Proteus Protective Services is a full-service licensed armed and unarmed security patrol firm. Proteus will provide uniformed officers to residential apartment management companies, motels, shopping plazas, schools, restaurants and other commercial establishments.

Proteus will respond to multiple types of calls such as noise complaints, intoxicated individuals, trespassers, shoplifters, burglaries, fights, domestic situations and other violent crimes, General Manager Chief John Jager said.

“Slim law enforcement budgets have been affecting police departments that have been trying to deal with the contemporary crime problem,” Jager said. “Sometimes, there are just not enough resources for an agency to respond to some calls, and that is where professionally managed security firms can both, directly and indirectly, pick up some of the slack by taking their clients’ calls for assistance.”

Proteus will also focus on supporting U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) managed multi-family housing to assist with federal policy mandates and assist in full security and policing services such as patrol, guarding and investigations.

“In regard to certain apartment complexes and motels, it is well-established that they have proved to be an ongoing drain on law enforcement resources and a source of chronic problems in many communities, especially those adjacent to the Duval/Clay county line,” Proteus’ Deputy Chief Sean Saunders said. “We’re going to focus on that sector, working closely with pro-active management in a unified effort to reduce crime that will provide local residents with a better quality of life.”

Proteus is currently accepting new clients across Clay and Duval counties. Residential management companies, shopping plazas, restaurants and other commercial establishments looking to set up armed or unarmed services should contact Proteus at 844-688-119 or at infor@proteusprotective.com.
