A Green Cove Springs man was arrested Monday on charges of drug possession without a prescription and a driving record that showed 15 different suspensions, deputies said.
Keith Kelvin Chambers, 39, of Green Cove Springs was driving an older model white Ford F-150 along South Orange Avenue and a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy recognized him as a suspect from a previous encounter, the arrest report said.
Chambers turned onto Ferris Street in Green Cove Springs as the deputy ran a search that revealed Chambers’ Florida driver's license was suspended.
The deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of Ferris Street. Chambers was driving the vehicle and there was a passenger in the seat next to him, the arrest report said.
Chambers presented a Florida identification card to the deputy and, when scanned, his name showed 12 driver’s suspensions for failure to pay financial obligations, two cancellations of his driver’s license and a failure to pay a traffic fine from February.
The deputy asked Chambers to exit the vehicle and he was placed in handcuffs and under arrest for the previous charges, the arrest report said.
A search of Chambers revealed in his right pocket $98 in various denominations and an unopened Suboxone patch, a class 3 narcotic, that did not belong to him, the report said.
The deputy read Chambers his Miranda Rights and Chambers made a statement that has been redacted from the arrest report.
The passenger in the vehicle was released at the scene and the registered owner of the car was contacted. The vehicle owner made a statement that is not included in the arrest report. Clay County Towing took possession of the vehicle, the report said.
Chambers was transported to Clay County Jail for his 15 driving suspensions and the possession of a narcotic without a prescription. His bond is set at $5,755.
