The Clay County Public Libraries are holding several upcoming all-age programs, open to Clay County residents. The programs are free to the public.
Monday, May 2, will be Family Fun Night at the Middleburg-Clay Hill Library from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and participants are encouraged to come to play board games, build LEGO creations and bring their favorite snacks.
Seating in the Meeting Room is limited and will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Free Comic Book Day will take place Saturday, May 7, at the Middleburg Library from noon to 3 p.m. and attendees will be able to take home one, free comic book, while supplies last.
Free Comic Book Day is the biggest event in the comic book industry — a single day when participating libraries and comic book specialty shops across North America and around the world give away comic books, according to a library press release.
In addition to comics, participants can partake in crafts for all ages and face painting by ‘Ms. Angela,’ from noon to 2 p.m. Photo opportunities will be available with special guests, including Stormtroopers from the 501st Legion.
In addition to the library event, many comic book stores are giving away free comic books. To find a participating location, go to www.freecomicbookday.com.
On Saturday, May 14, various selections of native plants and house plants, some available for sale, will be on display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Middleburg-Clay Hill Library Meeting Room. The program is hosted by the Garden Club of Middleburg, one of five Clay County, Florida Federation Garden Clubs recognized in the state.
During the Garden Club program, the First Coast Highlanders will perform Celtic music in a free concert on the back lawn of the Middleburg-Clay Library.
The performance will include bagpipe and drum performances running from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting. Those attending should bring a lawn chair.
