University of Alabama Head Basketball Coach Nate Oats Receives a Contract Extension Through 2029. See New Buyout Details

The University of Alabama Head Basketball Coach Nate Oats is excited to receive a contract extension through 2029, due to his success this basketball season.

Nate Oats is enjoying success as the head basketball coach and agreed to a contract extension with Alabama.

On Friday, 3 February 2023, the University of Alabama announced they are extending Nate Oats's contract through 2029.

The Tuscaloosa News reported "Oats will make $4.5 million in base salary, talent fee, and expense account in the first year. That will escalate by $200,000 each year. That does not include incentive bonuses. At that number, he ranks fourth among SEC men's basketball coaches in annual compensation this season behind Kentucky's John Calipari ($8.5 million), Tennessee's Rick Barnes ($5.45 million) and Auburn's Bruce Pearl ($5.4 million)."

The terms of his buyout agreement are as follows:

"His buyout in the first year of the new contract would be $12 million. In the second year it would be $10 million. In the third year it would be $7 million if he decides to leave the job." (Source: The Tuscaloosa News)

Head Coach Nate Oats also shared a statement.

He said:

Last Contract Extension: 2021 Announcement

In 2021, University of Alabama Athletic director Greg Byrne announced that they will "extend his current contract by three seasons to six years and keep him in charge of the Crimson Tide basketball program through March 14, 2027. The base salary and talent fee will increase to $3.225 million annually." (Source: Roll Tide)

University of Alabama President Stuart R. Bell is also pleased with Nate Oats leading the basketball program.

He said in 2021:

"We are very proud of what our men's basketball program has accomplished in just a short period of time under Coach Oats' leadership," said University of Alabama President Stuart R. Bell. "His emphasis on effort, continuous growth and selflessness has helped our student-athletes excel on the court, in the classroom and in the community. As long as Nate Oats continues to have success, the University of Alabama will likely continue to make it worth his while to stay as the head coach.
