Heading to the Carlsbad Flower Fields? Here's What You Need to Know
feeling like sophie from howl's moving castleinstagram: @yerangesther. Spring has sprung and that means colorful blossoms are popping up everywhere. The Carlsbad Flower Fields has always been a major attraction that I’d been dying to visit ever since it popped up all over Instagram for me a few years ago. We planned a spontaneous trip to Carlsbad and Encinatas to check it out since we heard the ranunculus were in full bloom.

Every year, since I was about 13 years old. I would plan my birthday months and I mean MONTHS ahead of time. Something about planning for an event or special day just speaks to me and we all love to have something to look forward to right? I think throughout my college years, it would dwindle down to a nice dinner out with my friends ending in bar hopping -that was pretty much all you could do in Reno. Here I was, post-grad, still stuck in the middle of a pandemic in California. I wanted to do something special for my 26th birthday but *safely*.

Thanks to social media, we’re always discovering places and things we would otherwise not know exists. One of my recent discoveries from Instagram was a little city by Santa Barbara called Solvang in the Santa Ynez Valley. This adorable little town gets its inspiration from an actual town in Denmark. My best friend was coming over from Vegas since she had a tattoo appointment and had a few days off so we decided to make the best of it and plan a little adventure to visit this quaint place. I saw yummy Danish pastries, windmills, and lots of places to take photos all over social media so we booked a night and planned out our short trip.

For the past month, I’ve been getting a lot of compliments on my new long luscious blonde locks. As much as I’d love to say its all natural (because a blonde asian is natural right?), it is fully due to my wonderful new stylist and her magic hands. I’ve seen the gorgeous asian blonde hairstyles done by famous hairstylists such as Guy Tang since I was in high school and only dreamed of having such hair for my own. That’s not to say I haven’t gone blonde before. During my time in Reno, we had the wonderful Amy that was the blonde whisperer for our small asian girl community that continued to talk of her awesome work turning us into all different shades of blonde and colors. We were lucky to have someone that knew how to lighten dark asian hair in such a small city because most of the stylists who worked there were accustomed to white girls and their easily lightened locks. Thanks to Amy, I’ve been able to achieve pretty much every color of the rainbow on my hair with a very affordable price and less damage.

This saying has been repeated to us and by us innumerable times throughout our lives, especially when referring to art that we may or may not agree with, right?. This thought recently reoccured to me as I was sharing my photos from my recent trip to the Getty Museum with some of my family members. Their comments and praise on how well the photos came out made me think about the reason why pictures and photography became so important to me in the first place. Back in January of 2019, I decided that I would put a little more effort and time into my presence on social media and I would honestly like to say that its been an eye-opening (although often arduous) yet rewarding task. The amount of hours that I've spent driving to locations, shooting, editing, and publishing have not been without its struggles and frustrations -- but the end results have usually always been worth it.
