On March 25, 2023, an 8-year-old girl was shopping in a Texas Walmart with her great-grandmother when a stranger approached her and tried to engage her in conversation. He wanted her to lift her shirt and follow him to the toy section. When she refused, he tried to grab her hand which resulted in her screaming and running away from him.
The incident occurred at the Walmart in West Adams, Texas.
Police responded to the calls and upon investigating, they discovered the potential kidnapper had left the store in a hurry after things didn't go according to plan. According to the police, the man dressed in a blue shirt, jeans, and a cap was described as follows: “The suspect is described as a White male with a beard, mustache and short hair, somewhere between 50-60 years old.”
Even though the girl was just a short distance from her great-grandmother, it did not stop the potential kidnapper from striking up a conversation with her. Things quickly took a suspicious turn from there as this excerpt explains: “He asked her to lift her shirt and then he demonstrated as well. And then he asked her to accompany him to the toy aisle. She said no. He attempted to grab her arm. She said no again. And at that point, broke away and ran screaming and found her great grandmother.”
Temple PD’s Lt. Brian Moody urged parents to caution kids about talking to strangers. He advises that if a kid is approached by a stranger who asks them to do something inappropriate then the best way to get people's attention is to scream.
