A 21-month-old toddler nicknamed Little Cherry was found dead after falling from an 8th-floor window in China. The tragedy happened after the child's babysitter got distracted by her phone and left the child behind on an elevator. The child exited onto the 8th floor of the building and is believed to have fallen out of an open window located near the elevator.
Per reports, the parents of the toddler filed a police case against the babysitter for negligence as this excerpt explains: "According to the June 14 surveillance footage from Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province, the toddler, nicknamed Little Cherry, was left in the lift by her nanny, surnamed Wu. The woman was engrossed in her mobile phone before getting out of the lift and had only pushed the child’s scooter out of the opening doors."
Camera footage since released show the babysitter engrossed in her phone while in the elevator and accidentally leaving the toddler behind. When the babysitter realized the child was still in the elevator, she tried to prevent the doors from closing by placing the scooter between them but it did not help. The toddler who is seen crying was then conveyed by the elevator to the 8th floor where she ran out in search of her babysitter and may have likely gone to look out of the window which led to her tragic fall.
Even though the babysitter claimed to have raced up to the 8th floor, she could not locate the missing child. The body of the toddler was later discovered on the podium of the 2nd floor of the building
The parents of the toddler alleged the babysitter refused to divulge the correct details of what had happened resulting in them looking in the wrong places for their child.
