Since Covid-19 took over life as we knew it, there has been an increase of 5.6% in violent crimes in 2020. Some of the factors contributing to this alarming rise in the crime rate include mental trauma associated with the pandemic as well as economic, political, and racial tensions.

A study on the 100 safest cities in the US was released by CCTV Camera World after using data from the FBI to measure the crime in 7,000 communities across the US. Rankings were then determined based on the total crime rate, that is violent crime and property crime rate per 100,000 people.

Topping the list of cities with the least crime rate was Wayland, Massachusetts with a crime rate of 7.22 per 100,000 people. Rounding up the top 5 cities were the following cities: Northport, NY, Milton, Wisconsin, Homer, NY, and Coxsackie, NY.

Other Massachusetts communities that made the list were ranked as follows:

  • 28th – Pelham
  • 50th – Groveland
  • 55th – Clinton
  • 59th – Franklin
  • 62nd – Norfolk
  • 84th – Holden

According to a separate study conducted by named Weston as the safest community in Massachusetts. The rankings were based on a safety index that combines FBI crime statistics and law enforcement employee to resident ratios to create a score and measure the overall safety of a specific community.

At 0.91, Weston had the highest score thanks to its low property crime rate of 3.02 per 1,000, which is lower than the national violent crime rate. Rounding up the top 5 safest communities in Massachusetts were Clinton, Wayland, Norwell, and Bedford.
