$15k is being offered for info in the shooting death of 23-year-old Evelin Navarro-Barajas
The FBI has announced a reward of $15 thousand for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of perpetrators in the June 2020 shooting death of 23-year-old Evelin Navarro-Barajas in northeast Portland. $2500 is also being offered for info by the local Crimestoppers organization.
On June 18 of last year, Navarro-Barajas spent the afternoon at the Columbia River. She and some friends gathered in a group that included children later that evening in the 6700 block of Northeast Killingsworth Street.
Just before midnight, a car containing unknown persons stopped at the parking lot near the group. A suspect or suspects got out of the vehicle and began firing into the crowd.
Navarro-Barajas died the next day from multiple gunshot wounds. A friend was also shot but survived. It is unclear who was the exact target of the assailant(s). Unspecified evidence that the shooting was gang-related does exist, though investigators are keeping tight-lipped about its exact nature. Neither Navarro-Barajas nor her friend were gang-affiliated.
The $15k reward is being offered as part of the Metro Streets Safe Task Force – an effort to stem local violence by getting illegal guns off the city’s streets.
