Target Species: Multiple species continue to be good inshore. Anglers are targeting just about every species found in our inshore fishery. Anglers are reporting sand trout, speckled trout, black drum, bull redfish, slot redfish, and sheepshead. The black drum are being found in schools. Remember flounder season is closed.

Best Baits: The fish are starting to feed heavily in anticipation of winter months when baitfish are not as available. For the bull redfish, use live mullet, cut mullet, pin perch, or cut menhaden. If you are targeting speckled trout, popping cork with live shrimp is working. Black drum and sheepshead are biting on shrimp. Find the sheepshead around structures such as rock piles and jetties. Anglers are catching large sand trout in deep water on cut bait. Popping corks with live shrimp and free-lined shrimp are good, especially on a long drift over the flats.

Anglers using artificial lures should try topwater plugs. The water is cooling, but that should not discourage the use of topwater baits. The fish are beginning to move more slowly, so slow down the retrieve of your artificial lures.

Target Areas: Target the deeper potholes with sandy bottoms and the deeper guts for speckled trout. Bull redfish are in deep water around structures. Anglers are reporting the slot redfish are scattered and are being found in back lakes. The mouth of the back lakes are holding a lot of bait. Target the mouths of the back lakes.

***Special note*** - Texas is in duck season. Be aware of duck hunters, especially early in the morning and on weekends. They do not want to be disturbed and will not take kindly to boats blowing through their decoys. If you see decoys in the water or hunting blinds, assume there are hunters in the area and move on.

Fish Activity: The forecast for the fish activity will improve as we move into the weekend. The fish activity forecast looks best for Thursday – Sunday. Pay attention to the weather report as the cold fronts are moving through. Also, pay attention to the major and minor times for your local areas. These factors will help you plan your fishing trip.

Tidal Conditions: Keep aware of the water levels. The tidal flow will be about as it has been recently. High Tides will be a little higher than normal and we will see negative tides. Be aware of when these negative tides are forecast so that you will not get stuck. As always, pay attention to the winds. Winds will be shifting from the NE on Monday to ESE on Tuesday - Wednesday. Friday -Sunday the forecast is for SSE winds and some gusty conditions.
