Two King George natives were killed this morning in a plane crash in Colonial Beach, a beach town in Westmoreland County, VA.
Just before 10:30 a.m. Virginia State Police responded to a call in the area of Layton Landing Rd. in Colonial Beach.
Authorities discovered that a Vans R6 model single-engine plane had crashed in a cornfield then caught on fire.
The pilot was 28-year-old Logan Edward Woodworth who was now living in Hampstead, NC. His passenger was 57-year-old Bruce Edward Woodworth, also a resident of Hampstead. According to messages posted online, they were father and son.
Virginia State Police said the former Northern Neck residents were both confirmed dead on the scene.
A June 6 post on the elder Woodworth’s Facebook page showed the men together with the message “off bow fishing for snakeheads in Va tonight.”
The younger Woodworth recently posted on his Facebook page that he had just completed a flight excursion of 6,000 miles in 13 days. An image with that post shows it was a coast-to-coast journey from North Carolina to Southern California to the Great Lakes region and back.
No details regarding the cause of the crash have been disclosed at this time.
