Drivers who use Rt.17 and Rt. 17 Business, aka Warrenton Rd, at night should be prepared for lengthy traffic stops and lane closures starting Monday, June 5.
VDOT announced that crews will be placing beams over the travel lanes for a new I-95 overpass that will carry the local lanes of I-95 northbound traffic. While those beams are being positioned and secured, it will require traffic on Rt. 17 and Warrenton Rd. to be halted for periods up to 30 minutes at a time.
The traffic changes are expected to extend for several weeks. VDOT did not provide an exact end date.
VDOT, did however, provide the schedule for the lane closures and stops for this week, which will occur Monday through Friday as follows:
Route 17/Route 17 Business Northbound
- 8 p.m. – 7 a.m. Alternating lane closures
- 11 p.m. – 3 a.m. Intermittent full traffic stops for up to 30 minutes. If work is required from Friday evening into Saturday morning, the full stop will occur from midnight to 3 a.m. Saturday.
Route 17/Route 17 Business Southbound
- 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Alternating lane closures
- 11 p.m. – 3 a.m. Intermittent full traffic stops for up to 30 minutes. If work is required from Friday evening into Saturday morning, the full stop will occur from midnight to 3 a.m. Saturday.
Additional traffic notes for week of June 5
Next Wednesday – Friday from 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. and overnight Friday to Saturday from 10 p.m. – 5 a.m., there will be a single lane closure on the off-ramp of Exit 133 (Falmouth/Warrenton) from I-95 North to Rt. 17 and Rt. 17 Business. This closure is due to the installation of overhead signs.
On I-95 North from Exit 133 to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) the following traffic changes will occur:
- Monday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single lane closure
- Wednesday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single and double lane closures between
- Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure
On I-95 South, from Exit 136 to Exit 133, Tuesday through Thursday from 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. and Thursday to Friday from 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. there will be a single lane closure between interchanges.
