One killed in mile marker 124 crash in Spotsylvania

Watchful Eye

More details have emerged about the Friday morning (May 19th) accident that shut down all lanes of I-95 North in Spotsylvania County for several hours.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. near mile marker 124, which is near the Spotsylvania Exit.

The lane closure was the result of a multi-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. And according to Virginia State Police Sergeant Brent Coffey, the individual died at the scene of the crash.

Details about the deceased individual were not provided. Sgt. Coffey also didn’t respond to questioning about whether the individual who was hit had gotten out of one of the vehicles involved in the crash.

Note to I-95 North Drivers

Initially, after the incident occurred, vehicles were bypassing the scene by going around on the shoulder. But VDOT came in and assisted with traffic control, setting up a detour that involved northbound traffic taking Exit 118 (Thornburg).

For future reference, it’s helpful to remember, if the area around mile marker 124 is backed up or delayed, getting off on the Thornburg Exit takes you to Rt. 1. Take Rt. 1 North, and you can get back on I-95 North at the Spotsylvania Exit.

This is a developing story and will be updated a more information becomes available.
