Although the scene near mile marker 124 was pronounced clear at 7:27 a.m., VDOT warned drivers to expect residual delays because at the top of that hour the traffic backup was about 4 miles long.
As of 7:50 a.m., traffic appears to be flowing smoothly in the Fredericksburg area from mile marker 123 to mile marker 126, based on an assessment of the VDOT traffic cameras.
For those who were fortunate enough to miss the traffic delay, at about 4 a.m. this morning, all I-95 North lanes at mile marker 124 were closed due to a multi-vehicle.
Mile marker 124 is just before the Spotsylvania exit (Exit 126).
Some drivers were making their way around the scene using the shoulder. But VDOT was encouraging drivers to use the Thornburg exit (Exit 118).
By 7 a.m., with the lane still closed, although there was a detour, the traffic backup extended nearly 4 miles.
Now, it appears to be all clear, including the residual delays.
For future reference, if the area around mile marker 124 is backed up or delayed, getting off on the Thornburg Exit takes you to Rt. 1. Take Rt. 1 North and you can get back on I-95 at the Spotsylvania exit.
Buckle up and drive safe!
