A 3-year-old who was missing for several hours died the day after she was found.

Munawar Hadi went missing from the Rappahannock Landing subdivision on May 4.

Stafford County Sheriff’s Office snapped to action with a multi-faceted response. The police called in its drone team, K-9 teams, and fire and rescue crews who launched a boat to search the Rappahannock River.

According to Stafford police, Hadi is believed to have last been seen around 3:30 p.m. on May 4, about an hour before her absence was reported to police. And the last time she was seen before police found her, she wasn’t wearing any shoes.

Shortly after 7 p.m., the girl, who only weighed 28 pounds and was 2’6” tall, was located in “a small body of water ½ mile from her home,” SCSO reported in an update.

A deputy removed her from the water, conducted CPR, and she was transported to Mary Washington Hospital where lifesaving procedures were attempted for over an hour, according to police. But tragically Hadi was pronounced dead at the hospital.

As of Friday, the investigation into this incident was deemed to be in the early stages. SCSO stopped short of saying whether they believe she drowned but did say “this appears to be a tragic accident.”
