A Kilmarnock man is facing charges from town and state police forces after he led authorities on a chase and crashed.
On Sunday, March 5, Kilmarnock Police Dept. (KPD) was called to Tri-Star supermarket on Irvington Rd. for a suspicious person. “Upon arrival, the suspect was reckless driving in the parking lot,” according to KPD Sergeant Jordan Russell.
Instead of stopping for police, the driver, who was in a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500, fled the scene. A short distance away, on N. Main St. he “illegally passed” and crashed into a 2010 Kia Optima while traveling “at a high rate of speed,” according to a report from Virginia State Police (VSP).
He then proceeded and crashed into the backyard at 81 N. Main St.
A stretch of N. Main St. was temporarily closed that that night as the crash left debris across the road that had to be cleaned up.
The woman who was driving the Kia was transported to Rappahannock General Hospital in Kilmarnock.
The driver who was identified as Christian Lewis Stark, a 35-year-old Kilmarnock resident, was not injured.
By KPD, he was charged with 2 counts of obstruction of justice, reckless driving, assault on law enforcement, failure to identify to law enforcement, failure to stop at an accident, felony eluding, and driving under the influence of drugs.
VSP charged Stark with felony hit and run, reckless driving; failure to maintain control of a vehicle, failure to obtain a Virginia driver’s license, improper passing, no driver’s license, and no liability insurance.
