Washington, DC has been a great place to dine for the past eight years where many restauranteurs are feeling confident with opening restaurants that might have only been available in places like New York City, Miami, Dallas, or Los Angeles.
Great Restaurants Continue to Come to Washington, DC
Many of our great restaurants are not just steakhouses, although we have great offerings like Mastro's, BLT Prime, Ocean Prime, Bourbon Steak Rare, Morton’s, and even Fogo de Chão. Many of these new restaurants are opening up around the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
Two Sexy Restaurants - RPM Italian and Karma Modern Indian
The convention center area has recently enjoyed awesome development and rehabilitation of neighborhoods like CityCenter, City Vista, and Mount Vernon - which is all of the new construction you see on New York Avenue.
A few of my favorites like RPM Italian and Karma - Modern Indian - are two restaurants that are great for introducing your out-of-town friends to a few "sexy" restaurants we have. Karma is a new Michelin Bib Gourmand, by the way.
Restaurant Imports - Truluck's and Yardbird
Truluck's DC will open on May 22. It is a seafood and crab restaurant company that has been around since 1992 with locations primarily in Texas, one in Miami, one in Chicago, and one in La Jolla California.
Yardbird Southern Table and Bar is also just around the corner from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. It is such a famous restaurant that they ship with Goldbelly. They have locations in Las Vegas, Singapore, and Miami Beach. It is a southern restaurant featuring absolutely decadent lobster mac & cheese, a great bourbon selection, and it has been awarded Best Fried Chicken in the US by Southern Living magazine.
Upscale Mexican - Mount Vernon
dLeña (Dlena) Woodfired Mexican Cocina and Mezcaleria just open this May. This is the same group behind El Centro and Toro Toro. This is a high-end Mexican restaurant featuring dishes like Waygu Steak à la Piedra, smoked marinated chipotle shrimp, short rib tacos, and in a really cool traditional but modern interior.
Bonus! - Summit Rooftop Bar and Terrace
Also included on this list is Summit, the rooftop terrace bar located on the top of the Conrad Hotel Washington, DC next to Yardbird and Citycenter. You’ll have to request reservations, as seating is very limited. The views are incredible and you can see clearly the Capitol Building, Washington Monument, and our incredible Eastcoast sunsets. They also have a great bar menu (get the jerky, you won't be disappointed) and of course, they are bringing back frosé, as you might have missed it when we were all hunkered down during the pandemic. I hope to see you all soon out and about! What places do you usually recommend? Let me know with a comment below!
