Here's My Reaction to the “Hot Oil” Pizza at Colony Grill in Clarendon (Arlington, VA)

Washington Lobbyist

I was recently in the Clarendon neighborhood and I have to say, I hadn't been in Clarendon for quite some time. I got my Masters from Georgetown when they used to have a continuing studies campus there. So I was there for a couple of years, but that hasn't been since 2011, and a lot has changed.

Watch the Youtube Video Here:

There's a lot of new restaurants in Clarendon, and thankfully a few good restaurants have stayed despite the pandemic. One of the new restaurants is Colony Grill. They opened last year. They're from Connecticut. It's a large kind of Irish restaurant - a lot of beers on tap, cocktails, and a lot of beers by the bottle.

It's sitting in 5,100 square feet there's a big footprint in their restaurant. They can accommodate a lot of people and obviously can accommodate a lot of people who are adhering to social distancing. They do have a lot of safety measures in place: servers wear masks, there is plexiglass separating the tables, and they keep their high-touch areas clean.

What's on the menu

It's pizza! It's a bar-style pizza. It comes out very quickly. They do have a very easy-to-read menu - it's all listed there on the wall and it's a great pizza. It's thin crisp. I believe it's cooked at 650 degrees so it is made-to-order and on your table very quickly.

Their specialty is hot oil - so what that is - it's the crust, sauce, cheese, and then they drizzle it with hot oil - a chili pepper-infused oil - so it is it's hot and it's spicy. You're gonna get some heat from that. On the weekends, they have a breakfast kind of a brunch pizza with bacon, eggs, and sausage. I put mine on a gluten-free crust, it's a little extra for that, but I'm trying to do a little bit more gluten-free in my diet. And their regular crust is just as good. A lot of great different toppings. There's a little bit of an upcharge for each topping, but it's very reasonable.

They're doing really well. It's not New Haven-style pizza, it's not Detroit-style. It's kind of its own pizza. Next time you're in Clarendon make sure that you check out Colony Grill!

Colony Grill. 2800 Clarendon Blvd #850, Arlington, VA 22201. 11:30 AM–11 PM. (703) 682-8300.
