If you travel towards the south side of Chicago, you will run into the famous Chinatown. If you haven't been to Chinatown before, prepare to be amazed by beautiful architecture such as the "Chinatown Gate" and "Nine Dragon Wall."
If you head to the Chinatown Square Plaza, you'll be surrounded by incredible shops and restaurants. I particularly love that most of the shops and restaurants are small businesses/family-owned. You will not run into a Mcdonalds' or Dollar General while you're here. If you happen to go on a weekend, there's a chance you could see a performance in the center plaza!
My go-to restaurant whenever we visit Chinatown is "The Veggie House." They offer vegan and vegetarian cuisine based on traditional Chinese meals. Of course, we couldn't decide what we wanted to order because everything looked so delicious. As a result, we decided to get a few different appetizers/meals and split them.
We got the "Spicy Buffalo Cauliflower", "Vegetable Spring Rolls", "Veggie House Dumplings", "Orange Tofu, and the "Sweet and Sour Dough Stick". We loved everything. The flavors were incredible, the consistency of each dish was perfect, and the portion sizes left you feeling beyond satisfied.
My personal favorite was the dumplings: I enjoyed the different colors they were, and they tasted delicious but healthy for a fried appetizer. My fiances favorite was the Sweet and Sour Dough Stick because that's not a meal you typically see and she really enjoyed the texture of the dish.
Overall, this restaurant is amazing with really great prices too. If you are ever in Chinatown, this place as well as many others should be on your radar for places to eat at or check out!
