3 Ways to Enjoy the Water in the Florida Keys

Wanderlust Wellman

1. BAHIA HONDA STATE PARK

Located in Big Pine Key, “Bahia Honda State Park” easily has the best series of beaches in The Keys. You can expect soft white sand and an unreal shade of blue to swim in. If you want to do more than swim and sunbathe, you can also rent a kayak, enjoy a snorkeling tour, or adventure to the abandoned bridge for a gorgeous view of the water. There's plenty of options at this state park for people of all ages!

2. VENTURE OUT ON A SANDBAR

It seems simple but this is the easiest way to enjoy the water without having to worry about swimming or big waves. If you are looking for more of a quiet place that is family-friendly, I recommend going to “Annes Beach” in Islamorada. There was a fun wooden bridge with different access points to the beach. Also, the water is shallow enough in some spots creating a sand bar. If you would like more of a party scene, another option is to rent a boat and go to a sandbar deeper into the ocean. A great spot to do this is “Whale Harbor Sand Bar”, also located in Islamorada. Either way, it's a wonderful way to hang out and enjoy the surrounding views.

3. JUMPING BRIDGE ON SUGARLOAF KEY

If you're looking for adrenaline and adventure, this is your place! The bridge here is the perfect height to jump into some warm water without fear of injury. If you don't think bridge jumping is for you then...try anyway! We watched some young girls face their fears and jump in, so you can do it too! However, if you still don’t think you can, there is a path on the side of the bridge that gives you access to the water. Either way, this place is so much fun and a great hangout spot on a hot day. With that being said, please be aware that this is a local favorite and its popularity is growing with tourists so please make sure to clean up once you leave and respect the area.
