Why is There A Giant Pinecone Statue in This Courtyard?

At the Vatican Museum, there is a massive pinecone statue in the courtyard. It supposedly represents the pineal gland of the brain, but it just looks like a pinecone to me. There are other cool sculptures on display here too. Check it out!
