Flores, and it’s integral Komodo National Park, is a group of secluded, paradise-like islands that should be on the bucket list of every traveller. Flores is best known for incredible diving conditions, vibrant coral reefs, pristine beaches surrounded by turquoise waters as well as the incredible flora and fauna diversity.
Besides all the other natural wonders that will make your heart beat faster, Komodo and Flores are known for the incredible beaches which, safe to say, are among the most beautiful ones in the whole world. What makes Flores beaches so special? From sandbanks like the ones you see in the Maldives, to pink and black sand beaches surrounded by the vibrant coral reefs- Flores has it all.
Let’s explore the list of the most beautiful beaches around Komodo National Park. These are not to be missed!
1. BEACHES OF PADAR ISLAND
Without a doubt, Padar Island is one of the most iconic locations within Flores. This jaw-dropping island is known for dramatic landscapes similar to these in Jurassic Park. Padar is one incredible spot for hiking and sunset watching. The island is also surrounded by a beautiful lagoon and calm turquoise waters, which makes it a perfect place to swim and snorkel. You can find all sorts of beaches around Padar Island- white, black and pink sand, and each of them is equally worth visiting.
2. PINK BEACH- PANTAI MERAH
Komodo is one of a very few places in the world blessed with beautiful beaches that spark all shades of pink. This unique phenomenon is caused by the rare red coral that is washed to the shore where it blends with sparkling white sand. Pantai Merah, although best known for the pink sands, is surrounded by the breathtakingly blue calm waters that contrast perfectly with the magenta shores.
3. TAKA MAKASSAR, THE BANANA BEACH
Taka Makassar Island is a small yet scenic sandbar located within Komodo National Park. When approaching the island, you will not believe how incredible Indonesian waters can get. With five star natural beauty, Taka Makassar cannot be missed in your Komodo itinerary. If you’re looking for a cruise organiser that has this incredible location included in their routes- check out Le Pirate Explorer and their adventurous travel packs.
4. THE BEACH AT KELOR ISLAND
Kelor is a tiny island fronting the beautiful hills of Flores. It is one of the must visit locations within the Komodo National Park as the view from the hilltop is simply jaw-dropping. Although it is also a major snorkeling spot, the 15-minute hike to the highest point of the island will reward you with the incredible panoramic view of Flores, Rinca and other nearby islands.
5. THE BEACH AT LE PIRATE ISLAND
Le Pirate Island is Komodo’s ultimate chill destination and the only island that serves the adventurous beach glamping experience. Le Pirate Island is a perfect stop for lunch, snorkelling, canoeing or hiking. Although it’s a private property of Le Pirate tour operator, travellers stop here to hang out for a few hours. If you’re travelling with Le Pirate Explorer group, you will get to experience a night on this island.
The island is surrounded with incredibly vibrant coral reefs and the waters here are calm and perfect for snorkeling. The main beach is a long stretch of perfectly white sand and unrealistically blue lagoons and offers the variety of activities to try around.
When the sun sets, simply grab a lounger and a drink and indulge in the most exquisite views. Join the bonfire party, cooking class or simply head back to your open-air beach cabana which will be your home for the day.
