Sailing St. John - Crewed Yacht Charter

If you’re familiar with the Dominican Republic, you’re likely familiar with Punta Cana, or perhaps even Puerto Plata. But have you ever heard of Las Galeras? Chances are slim. However, we’re here to tell you that if you haven’t heard of it, it’s time to look into it. This tiny fishing village on the far tip of the Samana peninsula is a gem waiting to be discovered. While lodging is limited, some of the beach beaches on the island can be found surrounding this town. If you’re thinking about heading to this area, here’s our guide to everything you need to know.

Las Galeras is about an hour and a half off the main highway when you first turn onto the peninsula. Once you’re on Highway 5, you literally take it to the end. Much of the road is in incredible condition, with a few trickier parts along the way (think massive potholes or dirt roads.

The pandemic has been an interesting time to travel - services and amenities were all but abandoned, much like the airports. Truth be told, I’ve actually enjoyed traveling during the Pandemic: flights were always on time and the airports and planes were virtually empty. We’ve also had incredible luck with discounted business fares, upgrades and smooth travel experiences. That being said, the lack of amenities, food, beverages and general service has been bummer to say the least. We had the opportunity to fly Business Class on Air France on a recent journey to Mykonos, Greece and we can safely say, Air France beats all US airlines by miles. While some of their services were adapted, the overall experience was exceptional. 

Overall, we had a wonderful 11 hours in the sky with Air France. After our initial flight from SFO to CDG in the same class, we were almost afraid to be let down, but they did not disappoint.

All-inclusive resorts are popping up left and right in the Maldives, and for good reason. The stress of paying for every little thing after planning an incredible trip can be what makes or breaks your vacation. Emerald Maldives has taken on a true all-inclusive experience without nickel-and-diming you for every last cent.

Emerald Maldives is located in Raa atoll on a beautiful lagoon. Raa atoll is about 35-40 minutes from Malé and guests can access the hotel via seaplane. Raa atoll is beautiful and there are dozens of hotels in the area. Sea life is plentiful and Emerald has a gorgeous property without anything terribly obtrusive. The local island of Maduvvari is fairly close, however, the rooms have been cleverly designed to mostly face away from the island.

Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa Hotel Review and Tour!

On our recent trip to the Maldives, we had the pleasure of staying at Anantara Kihavah. Anantara had been on our list for SO long, we were so happy to finally have the chance to experience it - and spoiler alert, it did not disappoint. 

Anantara Kihavah is located in Baa Atoll, one of the most bio-diverse atolls in the Maldives, and one of our personal favorites. Baa Atoll is a UNESCO biosphere reserve that has allowed the sea life to flourish, including the nearby Hanifaru Bay, home to the largest Manta Ray feeding station in the world. The property is located a short, 40-minute seaplane ride from Male. Guests can also choose to take a domestic flight with a spead boat if the arrival or departure time is before sunrise or after sunset.

Anantara Kihavah Maldives Hotel Review and Room Tour

Planning a vacation is hard enough, without the added question about which booking package is best for you? Hotels offer half board, full board, all-inclusive, breakfast only, room only AND MORE! It's important to consider what the best value is for your vacation, particularly when it comes to alcohol on a luxury vacation. Depending on your property, alcoholic beverages tend to range from $15-30 per glass or drink. Many hotels do offer happy hours and dining packages to offset the cost. That being said, you will notice that most hotels your look at will offer a myriad of F&B packages to pick from. These can be pretty overwhelming and confusing, so let me break it down for you.

Welcome to part 2 of our Qatar Airways QSuite experience on our journey to the Maldives. While the flight was short, the experience was nothing short of perfect. Note that this shorter segment does not include turndown service, pajamas or the international amenity kit. However, we were served a full dinner service. 

The lounge in Doha is exceptional, featuring two full service restaurants, quiet zones, seating for over 800 people and more. They offer private lounge areas that travelers can reserve to get some shuteye on comfortable couches. The showers have all the amenities you need, including hairdryers, towels, bath products and a private changing room.

Overall, Qatar Airways lives up to its name. The QSuite is a fantastic hard, and soft, product with incredible service, amenities, food & beverage and comfort that you would expect. Even in these COVID-19 times, the offering has held up to its name, providing a personalized, custom experience for all travelers.
