Los Angeles is one of the most expensive cities in the United States, and it looks like that’s not changing anytime soon.
Why does it cost so much to live there? Is L.A., as a whole, even worth all that money?
This article aims to answer these questions and more.

Who should read “Is L.A. still one of the most expensive cities in 2022?”
Anyone who is thinking about moving to Los Angeles or already plans to move there. Maybe you’ve heard the stories and think LA isn’t worth it. Maybe you’re thinking about moving there for a job or for school. If so, this article is for you!
The purpose of this article is to give you a realistic picture of what L.A. is like so that if you decide to move there, your expectations are aligned with reality and you aren’t disappointed.
This article aims to give you an idea of what L.A. will be like in 2022, as well as what it might look like in 15 years. This includes giving you numbers on how much it will cost you to live, go to school, ride the bus, etc. It also looks at L.A. from the eye of a visitor (international person) who is familiar with American culture and language, like me.
What are some factors that will affect the cost of living in 2022?
The three main things that are going to affect the cost of living in Los Angeles, in my opinion, are real estate prices, salaries and the economy.
Real estate prices
In my opinion, LA’s real estate market will not undergo drastic changes. People still want to live there and they’re willing to pay whatever it takes to live there! I think people will continue paying more for real estate than they have right now because it’s become an “investment” rather than a “luxury”. This is partly because of L.A. being a desirable place to live, but also because of the recent changes in the economy and the fact that people have an easier time buying real estate, making it more affordable than renting.
However, there could be some changes in the future. If you’re thinking about moving there and you’re worried about how much it will cost you to live, I’d look into what’s happening right now in Los Angeles real estate to get a better idea of what’s going to happen in 2022.
The highest-paid occupation in L.A.’s workforce is Orthodontists, recording a median income of $262k.
On average, the median income for people living in L.A. is $70k annually. The 5th lowest level of education you can get here is a high school diploma and the highest level of education you can get here is a doctorate. There are also many other occupations that pay well in L.A. that you can learn about here.
The median income for L.A.’s workforce will most likely increase by 2022. This is because the cost of living in L.A. is high and it’s not sustainable for people who are trying to live there, so if the costs don’t go down, then salaries will have to increase.
Also, keep in mind that L.A. is a big city and it’s home to a lot of people, so there will be more job opportunities than if you were living in a small town.
The economy greatly affects the cost of living in Los Angeles. Although LA is the second-largest economy in California, the cost of living is still very high. This is because all those jobs that are being created, such as being a film director or film editor, pay extremely well. Therefore, even though the cost of living may go down slightly due to salary increases, it might just go back up because more and more people want to live there.
What will L.A. look like in 15 years?
If you’re planning on moving to Los Angeles, you might not have a firm time in mind, but do you have a ballpark idea? If so, I’d recommend looking at this article by HuffPost. They give a breakdown of all the things that will happen between now and 2033, and this could help with your decision-making process.
What if I don’t live in L.A.? What can I learn from this information?
This article was written from the perspective of someone who is moving to L.A. from the United States. So if you’re from another country and not from an English-speaking country, I would recommend looking at other articles with similar titles and seeing what they have to say!
Is L.A. still one of the most expensive cities in 2022?
The cost of living in L.A. has been increasing steadily since 2008, so it wouldn’t surprise me if this pattern continued in the future as well.
In order to live a normal life (go out to eat, go shopping, use public transportation) you’ll probably need a car, so there will be more people buying them than changing their lives in any other way. You could live a very different life in another city; however, you won’t have any of the great things that L.A. has to offer!
So please let me know what you think! I want people to understand what this article is about so that they can get value from it and make their decision on whether or not they should live in L.A., which should help with their decision-making process.
Please let me hear your thoughts in the comments and please share this around! Thanks~ :)
