What To Do In Walnut Creek This Weekend April 21-23

2023-04-21

Welcome to Walnut Creek. We may not have the beach, we may not be the city, but we are a strong community of thriving businesses and organizations that throw no shortage of events every weekend. This weekend, the weekend of Earth Day, April 22, several events will celebrate Earth Day, others will celebrate music and sports, and all events will allow for bonding for couples, families, and friends.

With both day and night events, kids’, give-back and live music events, you can celebrate Earth Day in Walnut Creek without getting bored. In some places, you can celebrate with a drink. In others, you can celebrate with the kids. Check out our top five list of local events in Walnut Creek this weekend.

The cool thing about watching sports at Retro Junkie is that you can watch outside in the beer garden on a 15-foot LED screen. Retro Junkie will host a watch party during the Warriors-Kings playoff game on Sunday evening. There will be a food truck, there are ten TV’s inside, and there are outdoor bar games in the 3,000 square-foot beer garden. It’s a perfect day for Sunday Funday since the game starts at 12:30.

“Get Inspired. Take action. Be a part of the green revolution.” Earth Day at Civic Park has been a big deal since 1970 and this year it’s encouraging you to “act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably). Businesses, governments, and citizens — everyone accounted for, and everyone accountable. A partnership for the planet.” The event goes from 11 AM - 2 PM on Saturday April 22.

This year, bolstered by a kids’ art zone, will be live music, poetry, dancers, and conservationist and climate-protecting exhibits. Among the speakers who will call activists to action is congressman Mark Desaulnier, a major local political figure. Along with a dance group and ukulele ensemble, the director of Contra Costa Water District will speak.

Motown Mania at Lesher Center

A Las Vegas show is coming to Walnut Creek. The Lesher center is a great place to take in the arts, but on April 22, The Hofmann Theater will host a very unique event: a major celebration of Motown. Peter Peterkin’s Solid Gold Soul (featuring The Superstars Of Motown) will play the hits of The Temptations, The Four Tops, Gladys Knight, and many more Motown staples.
