PHOENIX, AZ — The City of Phoenix public pools are looking for part-time Lifeguard and Swim Lesson Instructor.

If you wish to apply for either of these positions, certification classes are required. Please check the information below for more details on this requirement.

Salary

  • Lifeguard $13.80 per hour
  • Swim Lesson Instructor $14.49 per hour

Part-Time employees will work up to 30 hours and are not eligible for the full package of benefits. Employees will have the opportunity to receive a free bus/light rail pass and earned paid sick time.

Minimum Qualifications

Lifeguard:

  • Must be 15 years old to receive your lifeguard certification.
  • Prevent accidents through the enforcement of policies and rules and perform rescue procedures for anyone in trouble.
  • Provide emergency care to guests in emergency situations (i.e., CPR, Rescue Breathing, or first aid).

Requires the following certifications:

  • Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED by the date you take the water skills demonstration test (certification class information provided below).

Swim Lesson Instructor:

  • Must be 15 years old to receive your swim lesson instructor certification.
  • Duties include instruct swimming lessons, specialty classes, and water safety programs.
  • Instruct and coach recreational team practices, meets, and events.
  • Requires Swimming Lesson Instructor certifications
  • Optional certifications: Lifeguarding

Certification:

The city will accept certifications issued by:

Starfish Aquatic Institute (SAI)
YMCA
American Red Cross (ARC)
Ellis & Associates (ELLIS)

If hired, all applicants will receive a one-day training session for StarGuard Certification.

Certification classes are required for a Lifeguard or Swim Lesson Instructor position. The schedule of classes is updated frequently. Please check the class list on their website.
